West of the market town of Schmidmühlen, the Jurasteig follows a narrow trail up the "Blaugrund". A romantic path winds up through a natural mixed forest, until the route becomes relatively even again, as you walk through the woods on top of the plane. Before you reach the village Winbuch, the Jurasteig offers beautiful views into the undulating landscape. The route to Winbuch leads through open fields, until the path enters shadowy forests down into the valley.
Near Aicha, the hiker reaches the Lauterach valley. Now the Jura landscape is characterized by airy beech woods, species-rich dry grassland and light pine forests until Hohenburg, where the Jurasteig follows mostly nature trails. Shortly before Hohenburg, the hiker comes across an especially attractive juniper heath with a view of the pilgrimage church of Stettkirchen. Before reaching Hohenburg, the route leads up the Kalvarienberg (Mount Calvary), where you encounter a marvellous view of the town and the castle ruins, which are enthroned above the town on the other side of the Lauterach.
