The Tillyland loop combines Dietfurt on the Altmühl with the market town of Breitenbrunn in a very pleasurable way. Everywhere in Breitenbrunn you can find traces of Johann Tserclaes, better known as the Count Tilly. During the Thirty Years' War (1618-48) he became the most important military leader, apart from Wallenstein. Tilly is closely connected to the history of Breitenbrunn, as the Elector Maximilian of Bavaria gave him the market town as a fief in thanks for his military successes. In memory of the important military commander and Catholic leader the Tilly festival each year transforms the market town into a late medieval scene.

From here the Tillyland loop leads out of the town in an eastern direction, past the local swimming pool, and up to the high Jura plains in the direction of Siegertshofen. Past Höhenberg you walk to Erggertshofen on mainly open land. The Tillyland loop leads through the forest and again down into the valley to Haahöf, where you cross the hill of Wildenstein and walk directly into the Siebentälerstadt (seven valleys' town) of Dietfurt. Most hikers will stay for a while in the charming town, and then you proceed further on the main route of the Jurasteig in the direction of Holnstein.

At the crossing below the "Haaser Leite", the Tillyland loop branches off from the Jurasteig and at first leads across the Weisse Laber and the main road (NM 26) to the other side of the valley. North of the small hamlet Haas you take a relatively steep and stony forest trail in the direction of Premerzhofen. Shortly before the village the route makes a hairpin-bend and goes further on through the forest, until the hiker meets a small chapel at the end of the village of Schmidhof. After a few minutes' walk straight along a field path you reach the forest edge. From there you walk either through the woods or along the forest edge, always on the high plain, until the trail leads down into the valley again, directly to the market square of Breitenbrunn.
