Beginning at the spa center, the Kaiser-Thermen loop at first leads through Bad Abbach's pedestrian zone, along the charming and colorful fronts of the market houses. The little baroque church of St. Christopher in the center of the pedestrian zone invites one to a quiet rest. On the Kaiser-Heinrich-II-Straße you reach a trail at the Lugerbach which is softly gurgling even in very dry summers. The way out of the market town leads past a new urban settlement in a soft ascent to the forest rim of the Sachsenberg. Soon you will see a sign to hill barrows from the Bronze Age, an interesting archeological monument only a few hundred meters from the route.

Further on, the hiker approaches an impressive view of Bad Abbach and the surrounding landscape:

In the west, you see the rocky landscape of the Jura and the Danube valley. South and east you can see fertile loam fields and the hills of the cretaceous-tertiary period. Past a horse farm at Gemling, the route leads further on along idyllic field paths through the tertiary hilly landscape. A sign points to a Celtic ramp in the Esterholz, another archeological monument which is only a few minutes' detour from the route. At the Moosweiher (moss pond) you reach an old sand pit where sand for building purposes was dug out in former times. Today it is used as a dump for excavated earth and as a nesting site for the rare river bank swallows. From the sand pit, the route leads past the hamlet of Eiglstetten to the Katzstein over quiet forest paths.

At the foot of the Katzstein, the pilgrimage chapel of Frauenbründl ("Our Lady's Spring"), which is almost 400 years old, is situated. It is a place of tranquillity and contemplation. In former times it was the retreat of 10 or 15 brethren of a religious community. Today only a single hermit lives there. You can refresh yourself with the cold waters of the spring, you may say a quiet prayer in the chapel of candles, you can admire the charming little Baroque church or simply absorb the special atmosphere of the place. From Frauenbründl you have a nice view of Peising with its imposing Baroque church tower. Further on through the forest, over the hill of the Katzstein and along field paths, the Kaiser-Thermen loop at last leads to the Mühlberg. Once again there is a marvellous view into the Danube valley with its Jura rocks and to the Schlossberg with Bad Abbach's two outstanding landmarks: the round tower of the former Wittelsbach castle, which is almost 800 years old, and the parish church of Bad Abach, which is dedicated to St. Nicolas, the patron saint of merchants and travellers.

From the Mühlberg, the route slowly leads down into the valley again. After reaching a forest patch, the trail runs parallel to the main route of the Jurasteig for a short time, but takes a different turn in the direction of the Kaiser-Therme (thermal spa zone). Even Emperor Charles V knew how to relax here during the Middle Ages, and today the Kaiser-Therme, with its numerous pools and a spacious sauna zone, invites you to a well-earned rest (opening times and information on www.kaiser-therme.de). You pass the Protestant church and reach the center of the market town again where numerous cafes and restaurants take superb care of your physical well-being.

At the end of this hiking tour, a visit to Bad Abbach's museum, which offers interesting insights into the geological, evolutionary and cultural history of the place, is recommended (opening times: Thursday and Sunday 14-16 hrs.).
