Starting at Simbach in the valley of the Weisse Laber, this route leads slowly up to the Jura plains past the small hamlet of Matzenhofen, until you are on the same level as Waltersberg, Pirkach and Thannbrunn. Buzzards circle in the upcurrent, and powerful winds are converted into wind energy – the wide open plain thus offering a contrasting image to the charming valley of the Laber. Further on in the direction of Ernersdorf, you soon will reach the route's highest point with 534 meters above sea level. In foehn weather, you may have a breath-taking view into the distance as far as the Alps, but at the very least you can see the pilgrimage church of Eichelberg, near Hemau. In March, the field larks' song warbles above the landscape, but scattered thickets, like islands in the fields, and heaps of gathered stones give you an inkling how much toil and trouble is involved in cultivating the fields on the stony high plains of the Jura, full of karstic dolines. The inn Neumeier at Ernersdorf invites one to rest, and you can see the church spire from far away.

Along the old church road to Berching the route leads further south. But after a few hundred meters

a view to the north  into the "Landl" is worthwhile: On one of the region's numerous outlier hills ("Zeugenberge") Sulzbürg is visible, and in the valley you can recognize the Rhein-Main-Donau Canal and the Dürrloh water reservoir. You walk further on along the slope of the hill at Ernersdorf and through the forest above the debris slopes of an old limestone quarry, until you have a view of Berching with its two church towers. At the ridge of the Rachel valley, the trail leads downhill past mighty black pines and directly into the charming medieval town, which is situated between the two European canals. You walk along the narrow creek in the Rachel valley with its wildly romantic "tuff cascades", until you reach the high Jura plains again in the east. Before the route leads downhill into the valley of the Weisse Laber, an inn at Wegscheid allows for a pause. You walk down into the valley through woods and meadows, until the König-Ludwig loop meets the main route of the Jurasteig at Rudersdorf, part of the market town of Holnstein. The route then takes the hiker up to the valley of the Laber and, via the Marienquelle at Herrmannsberg, back to Simbach.
