For those wishing to dine or overnight in Kastl, the market center lies within a few minutes walk after crossing the federal road (B299). If you like, you can take a detour of about 15 minutes to ascend to the monastic castle, which is definitely worth a visit.
Starting from the spacious parking place in Kastl the route towards Pfaffenhofen runs along a paved biking trail at first, and along gravel paths and wood trails later on. You will reach Pfaffenhofen with yet another inn after 30 minutes. Here, the way turns off at the first junction however, and you leave the village shortly after the junction. A signpost shows the way to the Schweppermann Castle, which is well worth a short detour of just a few minutes. The building is mentioned as a part of King Ludwig of Bavaria`s properties in a document dating back to the year 1329. For the subsequent centuries the castle was owned by the eponymous Schweppermann family.
After passing a deer park you will soon come along a wayside cross at a junction. After passing some forests and meadowlands the trail eventually meets the "Gemeindeberg", which has to be half-surrounded on grassy trails. Enjoy the nice panoramic views of the "Kuppenalb" landscape (some kind of limestone table mountains) before continuing your walk towards Holzheim after crossing another wood on narrow trails.
On gravel paths, along the forest edge and for just half a kilometer on a small, paved road the way leads into the village of Engelsberg ("Angels`mountain"), adumbrating the vicinity of the pilgrimage church at the Habsberg by its name.
Descently ascending the hill, the trail leads directly to the pilgrimage church "Maria Heil der Kranken", representing the highest altitude (621 m) on the Jurasteig.
Heading southwards, the trail passes the environmental education center „Haus am Habsberg“, which of course is worth a visit. After passing the rocky and species-rich slopes of the Schanzberg, you will eventually reach Unter- and Oberwiesenacker.
