The Petersberg-Loop connects the Weisse Laber valley with the Wissinger Laber valley offering a hiking tour on the Alb plateau to the Petersberg. The trail represents the connection of the "Wasser- und Mühlenweg" (hiking trail "water and mills") between the Breitenbrunner Laber, Wissinger Laber and the Weisse Laber and thus may be called one of the most diverse daywalks in the area.

Quite a number of information boards, prepared by the regional landscape conservancy association and the municipality of Seubersdorf, provide information about the 1000 years old cultural history and the varied biotopes between the jurassic cone of the Petersberg and the Wissinger Laber. Furthermore they tell about the site perservation measures, which have been conducted to ensure the continuity of a unique tessellation of dry grasslands, alleys, stone walls and the species-rich alluvial plains of the Wissinger Laber.

About 300 m after crossing the district road east of Holnstein, the Petersberg-Loop turns off the Jurasteig at the Högelberg, passes Staufersbuch and within well an hour leads up to the small village of Waldkirchen with its pilgrimage church "St. Peter and Paul" at the Petersberg. Here the trail splits up into a loop and leads along Ittelhofen and the Wissinger Laber valley back to the Petersberg or Holnstein respectively. When walking the Petersberg-loop (which is identical with the "Naturwallfahrt" between the Petersberg and the Wissinger Laber Valley), everybody`s senses will become susceptible for all the coherences between christian traditions, the network of biotopes, biodiversity, geology, traditional pasturing and landscape care.

Every now and then one comes across species-rich grasslands, being a part of the conservation efforts, which are conducted by the regional landscape conservancy association to avoid bush encroachment in these areas. Weathered wayside crosses recall the importance of the Petersberg as an ancient pilgrim`s destination and scenic alleys retrace old church pathes. The linkage of dry habitats - with typical plant species such as thyme and pine - with the near-natural alluvial plains of the Wissinger Laber, where broad-winged damselflies and the white-throated dipper live next to each other, is of special interest for the nature lover.

Half way in Ittelhofen two taverns provide hot meals and drinks and thus make the Petersberg-loop an all-round recommendable hiking tour.
